Sidmouth’s Ladies B were the first of the club’s tennis teams to shake off the festive indulgences by taking on Teignmouth away on Friday, January 11.
It was a sluggish start to the new year with Marlene Maynard and Kate Truman struggling to get into their stride in their first rubber, making too many unforced errors and losing 1-6, 2-6 to a strong Teignmouth pairing.
Fortunately, they managed to pull things together for the second rubber to win 6-1 6-4.
Meanwhile, Sally Lockhart and Vici Topping played with style to take their first rubber 6-1, 7-5 but also were unable to take control against the Teignmouth first pairing, losing 3-6, 2-6.
Overall, a respectable 4-4 draw and a resolve to play better when Teignmouth pay a return visit to Sidmouth next month.
