Forty-two points were more than enough to seal victory on Monday for John Barnard in the latest Charles Stanley stableford at Sidmouth, writes George Carr.
The Barnard performance also saw his get a reduction in his handicap taking iot to a single figure whilst the win also fixed a wide smile on his face for the foreseeable future it would seem.
It was no more than his recorded eleven pars and a birdie deserved, so well played John Barnard. Long handicapper Paul Blay (a new name in these columns) proved how well golf’s handicap system works when he gained second place and prize money with 39 points - three pars and a nothing worse than a double bogey on his card proving more than enough for second place - well played, Paul.
Veteran Brian Lemasurier (no relation to Sgt Wilson of Dad’s army) was kept in third spot only on count back; his birdie on the fifth helping him to keep Messrs Venn, Sheppard and Emerson at bay two shots behind.
