Sidmouth juniors played their last East Devon League tournament of the season at St Luke's School last Saturday, against their now familiar foes from Exeter (Isca A and B) and Colyton/Honiton (combined team). The youngsters played with their characteristic defiance against the more experienced opponents and scored some impressive wins, plus a few nail-bitingly close defeats. Ultimately, however, Sidmouth lost against all three teams, ending up in last place on the day, and fourth in the final league table. Isca A were the overall winners, second place went to Colyton/Honiton and Isca B came third.Nevertheless, as this was their first season in this league, all the Sidmouth players deserve many congratulations for their efforts and sportsmanship. Just from the experience of playing these matches, they have improved fantastically, including some who only took up the sport a few months ago. And, as I've probably pointed out too often, with most of the under-13 and under-17 players being at least a couple of years within their age-groups, they have plenty of time to learn and improve. Sidmouth have stuck to the plan of giving the whole squad the opportunity to get match experience, which might ultimately have cost some points, but everyone has risen to the challenge. I'm sure next season will bring better results.Well done to: Rufus Baker-Morris, Jamie Briggs, Hannah Domhof, Dan Hennessy, Sarah Hunt, Hugo McGurran, Ben Powell, Rob Walkden and Grace Williams. And many thanks as always to the families for their loyal support, and to junior coaches Harry and Mark. For more information please call Sidmouth Sports Centre (01395) 577679, or coaches Harry Humphreys (01395) 514006, and Huw Hennessy (01395) 577630.
