SID Valley CC is holding the annual Peak Hill Climb in memory of Rodney Pyne on Sunday, October 12, starting at 10am. The climb commemorates the life of popular local hotelier Rodney Pyne, who loved to cycle the lanes of East Devon. Many people will remember his cheerful character, especially those who frequented the Mermaid Bar.Considered by local cyclists to be one of the toughest climbs in the area, Peak Hill has an average gradient of 20 per cent, or 1:5. There are lots of prizes on offer including £100 for first , £50 second and £25 third, as well as trophies. The race commences outside the Bedford Hotel and, after a gentle start, riders find the hill becomes increasingly tough and it really begins to hurt two thirds of the way up. A sprint finish is possible if they still have the energy!Entries, £6, ASAP to: Ron Clint, 1, Drake House, Sidford, EX10 9RN. Tel (01395) 578297 or visit svcc.org.uk
