There was defeat for Beer Albion who went down 2-0 at Topsham Town. Even more damaging to the Beer cause was a nasty injury to Ollie Morgan that ended with him being taken off to hospital to have a knee injury looked at. Topsham took a single goal lead into half time and doubled their advantage in the closing stages of the match.

Fishermen’s chief Mark Ward said: “I am afraid, Martin Adkin apart, none of the team can come out of those 90 minutes with too much credit. It was one of those days when too many of the 11 were off their game and that’s disappointing. But the team have risen to the challenge before, and I am sure they know where it went wrong and will be in the mood to put it right this coming Saturday.”

Next up for Ward and his men is a home game against basement dwellers Exmouth Amateurs who had begun a mini-revival until their single goal defeat at home to Sidmouth Town last weekend.

Ward will be without the injured Morgan, who returned from hospital on Saturday evening waiting to see just what damage had been done to knee ligaments when the swelling dies down. John Cooper, who broke down in the warm up at Topsham, should be fit for the Ammies game whilst James Melville, who struggled through the Tops defeat, is also expected to be fit.

Beer Albion Reserves had a nap hand victory when they hosted Feniton Reserves. A ninth success of the season for the Fishermen keeps them very much in the hunt for one of the three promotion places on offer. Next up for Ross Morton’s men is a visit to high-flying, table-topping Dolphin.
