An early goal from Karen Cann gave Sidmouth the initial advantage as the young ISCA side struggled to cope with the intensity of the Sidmouth attacking play. With the momentum behind them Sidmouth created many chances, giving the ISCA goalie plenty of work to do. Taryn Beuthin extended the lead by connecting with a rebounding save and beating the keeper, however Sidmouth were unlucky not to have a more convincing lead at half time, having had the majority of possession. With Vicki Tarr confined to her sick bed with flu, the home side's short corner routines lacked pace in the initial injections, and failed to threaten the ISCA goal. However, an inspiring half time talk advised that a straight stop and slip left for a Lea Pidgeon strike would possibly challenge the ISCA keeper. A few minutes into the second half the opportunity came when Sidmouth were awarded a corner following a stick tackle in the circle. The home side executed the suggested routine to perfection.By dominating the attacking play, the side can sometimes be vulnerable to being caught on the break. This was no exception as ISCA took their chances well and began to make an impact on the game by scoring twice, which gave them the opportunity to get back into the match. Sidmouth's composure was unaffected and they continued to dominate with many promising attacking moves that just lacked that final shooting precision required to pass the talented ISCA keeper.Highlights of the match included the contributions of Sidmouth's young players Sarah Hutchings and Caroline Bickerstaff who, from their wide defensive positions, were able to push forward with pace to support the forwards, create an overlap and threaten the goal on several occasions. From one of these runs, Bickerstaff outpaced the opposing defenders to score. Lucy Broad had a great game in midfield, dominating on the left and she was unlucky not to score. The Sidmouth lead could have been further extended as there were several near misses, as well as some wild reverse stick flicks flying over the top of the goal in the final stages. The captain's post match analysis concluded that this had been the best performance of the season so far which according to statistician Karen Cann, leaves the team unbeaten in the league this year. They will need to replicate this form when away to Newquay in two weeks' time.
