Last weekend, ultra runner Bev Tarry travelled to London to compete in a 100 mile run/walk, writes Sarah Brown.

Starting in London, she passed the Olympic Park, Cutty Sark, through Greenwich and then to the North Downs. Running through the night is always a hard challenge, especially when it starts to rain and competitors were slipping and sliding up and down the hillsides, covered in mud. Despite the continuous rain there was a lot of crowd support, which can often make the pain and blisters worthwhile! Tarry completed the incredible challenge in 38 hours 55 minutes, and is already planning her return for next year!

On Saturday, Milan Goc also completed an ultra-marathon – the Dartmoor Discovery, a 32 mile race starting and finishing in Princetown. In a year where a new course record was set, Goc set an impressive personal best time by nearly 18 minutes, finishing ninth overall in a time of four hours 14 minutes, feeling and finishing strong. This was a very well- organised race by Teignbridge Trotters, and one which allows competitors to see all over Dartmoor whilst having a great run.

Jessica Raynor and Di Puzey competed in the Umborne Ug, a local, hilly 10K race organised by Axe Valley Runners. Even though the race featured a ‘monster hill’ and was a hard course, Raynor and Puzey both had strong runs, Raynor finishing in 53.28 resulting in being the second lady home, and Puzey not far behind in 55.21 and the third lady home. After the race there was a barbecue for all runners and their supporters complete with cake and beer. Sidmouth Running Club’s next event is Beat the Bus, a unique 10k multi terrain race that is on Wednesday, June 27, meeting at Otterton Green at 6.25pm, and all entries are welcome.
