Bunney has high hopes for six point haul

Ottery St Mary manager Dane Bunney is hoping for two massive games from his side this week as they take on Totnes and Dartington at home on Saturday and Stoke Gabriel at home next Wednesday night.

He has recently signed striker Chris Belston, who was at Alphington, the player having previously played for Bunney at Millbrook.

But, he says, “That’s my quota of away players. I am only really looking at local players now. We looked at several at training on Tuesday and there are some more coming next week. ! have been watching a lot of games and it is surprising how quickly I have got to know the territory, and who plays for which team, which teams have good players etc.”

Bunney went up to watch Crediton beat Stoke Gabriel on Monday night as Ottery meet both sides in October. “I do a lot of research, but, if I do something, I want to do it well,” he added.

The club had a what Bunney described as a ‘strange day’ at Budleigh Salterton last week in the Throgmorton Cup.

Ottery had beaten Budleigh 1-0 previously this season and, says Bunney, put in a really good first half performance.

“At the break I was 100 per cent confident we would win. But, after the break there was a lot of stuff going on and our young players got involved and took their minds off the football and we ended up getting thumped 6-0. But, at the end of the day, it’s a cup we couldn’t win, there are some massive clubs in it, and I am much more interested in the league and the Devon Premier Cup,” he said. “I wasn’t that chuffed about comments I read from the Budleigh manager and rang him up on Monday to discuss his comments.”
