Pacemaking younger runner sets up record

Bob Minting from Sidmouth has just broken the European record for 800m in the 60+ age group. The record had stood for 20 years and his time was 2.11.3, also bettering the existing British record (2.15.2)!

He put his time down to it being a graded race at the SW Vets Athletic Championships at Exeter Arena, rather than an age group race. He benefited from the pacemaking of M45 Simon Anderson, clocking 63 seconds for his first three laps.

Bob, who runs for Blackheath and Bromley Harriers, now has his sights set on the world record - 2.10.42.
