Quality goals from Ferenc Bodor and Scott Hughes in each half saw Sidmouth Town Reserves to a 2-0 Firewatch Devon Senior Cup success over Colyton at Coach Road, Newton Abbot.

The game saw a booking as early as the first minute with Colyton’s Callum Somers seeing yellow.

The first effort at either end came from Bodor, who drilled a shot just wide. However, in the 20th minute Bodor scored a superb opener when he rifled the ball home from fully 30-yards.

Town glovesman Robbie Powell made a number of smart saves while, at the other end of the pitch, Ben Goodier went closest to doubling the lead prior to the interval which saw the Vikings deservedly holding a single goal lead.

The second goal came with some 20 minutes remaining and, just like the opening goal, this was a special one too as a cross from the right was met with a looping header from 18-year-old Scott Hughes who guided the ball up and over the Colyton glovesman and into the net.

Colyton huffed, and puffed, in a desperate bid to get back into the game, but, in truth, it was all very comfortable in the final 15 minutes for a disciplined and organised Town back line that dealt extremely well with the best that Colyton – who had won both Macron League Division One games between the two teams this season – had to offer.

After five minutes of added time the referee blew his whistle and the Town celebrations – a coach load of supporters had travelled to South Devon with them – began.
