Sidmouth and Ottery Hockey Club (SOHC) men’s 2nd XI were involved in an incident-packed contest against Plymouth University.
Blood was spilt, cards were handed out by the referee and harsh words were in the air as the students ultimately claimed a 3-0 success.
In contrast to the drama with the 2nd XI, the SOHC third team bagged a superb score as they won 2-0 away at Taunton Vale.
What made their result all the more impressive was that they had issues travelling, which led to a delayed start – and they also went into the game having been forced into a number of changes from the side that had taken to the pitch seven days before!
Despite things seemingly ‘conspiring’ to go against them, the team played well and the younger players really stepped up and impressed throughout.
Lorenzo Borches fired the side into an early lead that they carried through to half-time and the points were sealed after the break by a goal from Greg Seward.
The men’s fourth team were hit by player call-ups to the third team, but brushed that to one side and competed well in their home meeting with Chard B. They served up some good approach play, but could not find a finish to match it and eventually went down 3-0.
