●Sidmouth ladies - What a wonderful week of bowling weather! Sidmouth ladies started with a home match against Chardstock.

Two rinks of triples played, with Sidmouth winning on one rink: Jill Lewis, Jose Harrison, Sheila Burnand 15-13.

Next came the afternoon of the Spears Trophy, an annual event, which Seaton won last year. Invitations were sent to Budleigh Salterton, Exonia, Honiton, Madeira, Ottery St Mary and Seaton Clubs to send teams of four players, and Sidmouth Ladies gave them a warm welcome before 48 ladies took to the six rinks for some excellent play in the glorious sunshine.

Everyone changed rinks after six ends to enable Sidmouth to play each of the guest clubs.

Many thanks to the Ladies’ Outdoor Committee for all their hard work in the preparation of the delicious tea, which was taken half-way through the competition.

Fortified, a final 12 ends were played with Seaton taking home the trophy for a second time. The runners up were the ladies from Honiton, but well done everyone - it was a lovely afternoon.

Wednesday saw a further round of the Inter Club competition, with Sidmouth playing Madeira at Budleigh Salterton.

The game was very exciting from the start, watched by keen Sidmouth supporters. Unfortunately, Madeira just won on both rinks, but it was a very tight finish, and the club were proud of Sidmouth’s two Inter Club teams.

Well played to Jean Brimson, Marie Wall, Phil Nobbs, Eileen Hewitt and Pat Pritchard, Sue Mison, Anne Capon, Jill Bishop.
