The men took three rinks to neighbours Madeira where they always have an enjoyable and competitive game, write Sue and Peter Mison.

On this occasion, Sidmouth came out the winners by 54-42. Congratulations to Sidmouth’s winning rink of Rob Cartlidge, Cliff Hewitt, Bill Turner and Bob Seldon who won by 27-10.

Sidmouth ladies were drawn against Honiton in the Yetton Trophy with two teams playing at home and two away.

Sidmouth lost overall to Honiton by 13 shots but well done to the winning home rink of Pat Pritchard, Sue Mison, Christa Turner and Jill Bishop,, who won by 26-17 and the away team of Betty Farmer, Pat Harvie, Sheila Burnand and Dreda Taylor who drew 21-21.

As first round losers Sidmouth will now play in the Yetton Plate at the beginning of December.

Saturday saw the men play the opening round of the Denny Plate with a match against Tiverton rivals Mid Devon.

In a hard game, with two rinks playing at home and two away, Sidmouth, unfortunately, came out the losers by 63-103, losing on all four rinks.

Chudleigh came to Sidmouth on Sunday for a mixed match, winning on two rinks, but losing overall to Sidmouth by just three shots, thanks to the home side’s winning rink of Jill Lewis, Lorna Lever, Dave Lever and Ron Cook with a score of 29-8.

Sidmouth ladies had a good game with Exonia at Sidmouth and won by 55-50 in a close match.

Sidmouth’s winning rink was Marian Watson, Margot Beauchamp, Christa Turner and Phyll Nobbs by 24-17.
