Sidmouth captain David Pepperell secured top spot in the latest Sidmouth Jewellers Friday stableford with 43 points, writes Chris Roberts.

However, it was a clsoe contest with countback called into play to separate the captain from the in-form John Jones. Both players carded under par gross scores with the captain’s 65 including four birdies and John Jones’s 62 including an astonishing seven birdies.

Playing in such style Jones must now have one eye on the course record which stands at 59 by Nigel Winchester in 1985.

Mr consistent, Lee Wenham, secured third place with 36 points followed by a herd of players on 35.

There’s no surprise at the top of the Friday League table with John Jones a leader, a full 14 points ahead of both Lee Wenham with James Spiller a further one point back.
