A field of 80 plus players took to the course on Monday in the Charles Stanley roll up stableford for the 1st competition of the summer golf season, writes Chris Roberts.

Captain Dave Pepperell carded a superb round of golf scoring 67, one over par gross earning 40 points enough to take the top spot on the day and see his handicap cut to 4.9, a true captain’s performance!

In second place was the long hitting George Barber scoring 39 points. Third place went to C Ward with 38 points. Mark Thomas and Jonathan Lee tied on 37 points each Thomas edging the club manager out of third on count back even with a bogey five on the 18th, I am quite sure that Mark did not mention this much in the club house!

This year the eclectic run in tandem with the Charles Stanley stableford with a new format of five-eighths of score off each hole score, with just the one round played the captain leads closely followed by Mark Thomas.
