Captain Paddy Tallon followed up his successful Captain's 'drive in' by entering the three ball Texas scramble event on Sunday. You could be forgiven for thinking that, after being at the golf club non-stop for the past few weeks, he may have wanted a rest but, without his beloved Reds on telly, what else could he do on a Sunday?A total of 35 people played in the event and, with the recent spell of good weather, the course was looking great considering the time of year and how much rain we have had lately. Paddy's partners for this event were Colin Macklin and the very consistent Martin 'Walter' White. Martin was evidently nervous, he had been up most of the night and he turned up looking red faced and was shaking! The format of the day was each player drives and then the team picks the best shot out of the three. From there you follow the same idea until the ball ends in the hole, and it is renowned as a low scoring format. Incredibly Paul Hitchcock, who has had a remarkable run on Sundays, had to settle for third place as the captain, Walter and Colin took first prize with a very respectable 56.2 - even more amazing as they only received 1.8 shots. The highlight of the round was a birdie three on the eighth and a two at their last hole, the 14th. 1, Colin Macklin, Martyn White and Paddy Tallon 56.2; 2, Roger Trivett, Kevin Trivett and John Rockey 56.8; 3, Ian Pugsley, Paul Hitchcock and Ian Bright 57.4.
