SIDMOUTH Rugby Club celebrated one of the most successful seasons of its 124 year history with the annual dinner and presentation evening on Friday at the clubhouse. An excellent steak meal prepared by Duncan Woods and his catering team was enjoyed by 75 players and supporters before the presentation of the season's awards. President Derek Marchant congratulated the players on a splendid season in which the Chiefs had gained promotion, the Colts had won the Devon Shield and the Junior section had won several trophies. Rugby manager Tug Wilson led the presentation ceremonies with speeches given by the various team managers.The playing award winners were as follows: 1st XV Player of the Year - Harry Chesterton; 1st XV Most Improved Player - Jack Pyne; 2nd XV Player of the Year - Bryn Thomas; 2nd XV Most Improved Player - Chris Otway; 3rd XV Player of the Year - Ian West; Colts Player of the Year - Ollie Derryman.The biggest cheer of the night came with the announcement of the Clubman of the Year which went to Steve Channing for his work in reviving the 3rd team three years ago and managing the team to attaining and fulfilling a full fixture list in the past season.
