Devon Orienteering Club is holding a one hour score event on Fire Beacon and Core Hill on Sunday, September 4.

This is an excellent opportunity for anyone who would like to try out orienteering as well as for those with more experience and is suitable for all ages. There is a mass start at 11am, with registration starting at 10am.

Orienteering is a very flexible sport as competitors can walk or run around the course. They can compete as a small group, such as a family, or on their own. At a score event, each competitor has a map with a number of points on it. You then have an hour to find as many of these points as possible without incurring a time penalty. Each point or control is electronically recorded with a dibber which is then downloaded at the end to give a read- out of your final score and time. Full results are posted on the club website shortly after the event.

Fire Beacon is located off the B3176 Sidmouth to Ottery St Mary Road close to the Bowd and is an excellent place for a post event picnic!
