The Charles Stanley Deane Medal, in memory of a past member, is always played in April and winners receive a slightly different medal at prize giving.

Despite the excellent weather, scoring well proved really difficult again. Winning the First Division was Kevin Legg with a net 66. He played steady golf, particularly on the back nine but will regret bogeying the last hole. He won by one from David Cowler.

‘The Reverend’ would have been praying to keep his steady play going to the end of the round but, inexplicably, he bogeyed the last four holes which cost him the medal. Neil Holland, the club’s best player scored 68 but as he plays off plus one, he had a net 69 and had to settle for third place.

In Division Two, scores were much higher. Wilf Hudson, Tony Stoyle and Eric McMath all had 69s so the medal was decided on countback and Hudson’s three pars on the back nine made won him his medal.

Division Three was dominated by Jeremy Holden’s net 63, the score of the day. It saw him get a three-shot handicap reduction which more reflects the standard of gold he has been playing for a while now.

Mike Davis was second with a net 71 and Ray Scott was third with a net 74. Standard scratch was set at 70, four shots above the course par which reflects the difficult of the course currently.
