The sixth round Charles Stanley Monday Stableford was played in very dodgy weather, writes John Barnard.

As predicted by the Met Office, it was wet first thing and then in the afternoon, heavy rain meant play was almost impossible so the working lads who usually play later had to miss out. Taking his chance was Chris (CC) Roberts with a fabulous score of 42 points, probably enough to have won if it was a full field.

As it was, he won by ten clear points! He had a blistering start, four birdies in the first eight holes including the hardest hole on the course, the eighth. 23 points going out was his reward. His back nine didn’t quite reach the heights of the front nine but a solid 19 points, only marred by a bogie on the last, gave him an easy win. Mike Knight was second and he also started well birdying the first but the next three holes messed up his card. Third was Steve Milton. An unusually inconsistent round with the three ‘no scores’ but a birdie on the last got him into the prizes.

John Jones now leads in the birdie count with 13, followed by Nick Gingell and Mike Knight with 12.

In the eclectic, Mike Knight has retained his lead with a nett 53, followed two shots back by Harrison Jones, Simon Emerson and Nick Gingell all with 55.
