The Charles Stanley Monday Stableford was won this week by David Bater, writes John Barnard.

The poor summer this year continues on Monday with some sun, a little wind and for the unlucky ones, a bit of rain later as well.

The scoring was as good as some weeks as the course becomes drier with some big bounces and it’s difficult to pitch into the greens and stay on.

This didn’t worry David who scored 39 points. A very consistent round with two birdies and only four bogies. It was only just enough though. Geoff Lory also scored 39 points, but David’s birdie on the 18th was enough to keep him ahead. Geoff birdied the second and got a number of pars but three double bogies, meant it just wasn’t quite enough to win the club prize, but he was also entered into the seniors competition which he won.

In third place was Michael Smedley, a new name to the leader board this year. He scored 38 points which was a real mixture off his 19 handicap. Two birdies, but two no scores and some double bogies meant a good score could have been great, next time though!
