On Saturday Sidmouth Rugby Club were unable to raise a team for the rearranged league game at home to St Ives.

The lack of availability arose because several players went off travelling after Christmas, the club has a big injury list, Nick Mills got married and his wedding was attended by several players, a few at were at a 21st birthday in Brighton, some were working and some on holiday.

The main problem was that this was not originally a league fixture weekend. Players saw a gap in the fixture list and made other arrangements. The bad weather late last year meant a game was rearranged on the date.

The resulting five point deduction, and other results on the day, leaves the Chiefs just eight points above the relegation zone. With most teams below them having games in hand, at least10 points are needed from their five remaining games to ensure survival in South West One West.

The Quins game at Exmouth was also cancelled.
