Last Wednesday the sun shone and Sidmouth lady golfers played for the Centenary Trophy in a Par competition, writes Gill Paddon.
The prestigious trophy was presented to the ladies’ section in 2007 by Marie Timms and Alyson Cook, the then captain and vice captain respectively.
So it was quite fitting that Marie Timms won the trophy that she had so kindly donated, arriving at the 18th hole in level par having played to her handicap!
Maria Clapp, who had just celebrated a special birthday, was second with minus three together with Sheila Tallon who also had the same result.
Clapp has obviously hit a purple patch as she has also qualified together with Julie Lye for the area final of the Coronation Foursomes which is organised by the Ladies’ Golf Union and will be held at the Bristol and Clifton Golf Club in August.
