The Claret Jug is a domestic competition that is always eagerly anticipated as it in involves all five representative sides in a head to head battle and an excellent dinner to follow, writes George Carr.

The teams involved are; Palairet, East Devon League, The B side, The Emmerton Court (seniors) and a team selected by the club captain - in this instance John Rockey.

There are eight in each team and the format is two-ball better-ball-ball scores to count.

Colin Macklin Lee Wenham were top scorers on the day providing the B team with an excellent start with their 44 points; but the formidable Palairet side it was who triumphed on the day led by and Jonathan Lee and Duncan Taylor with 43 points and a grand total of 162 only five clear of the brave B team on 157.

The other teams listed above were all well chasing hard. Excellent golf all round gentlemen, pass the port!
