The new floodlighting facility at Sidmouth Tennis Club has already sparked much interest, following the article and photograph in last week’s Herald, writes David Thorneley.

With all three all weather courts now floodlit, court space from October to April will be much increased, not only for social and competitive league tennis but for coaching sessions .

LTA Coach Sue Wiltshire will be holding a wide range of coaching sessions at the Fort Field courts between now and the end of December, some of which will take place under the lights. Back to Basics at Your Own Pace is aimed at adults new to the sport, whereas the ever popular Rusties, for those who have progressed to the next level, are well catered for in a series of sessions, providing an opportunity to meet other members, thus getting rid of any doubts on the self confidence front. A third tier ‘Back in the Swing of it’ is aimed at those who have progressed beyond the Rusties and are on the verge of playing in club matches, with technical and tactical advice being prominent in the programme.

? In addition there is a comprehensive coaching programme for Juniors for all ages from Mini Reds (four years upwards) through to Orange and then Green/Yellow Ball categories. Sue Wiltshire will be pleased to receive enquiries on all coaching matters on 07906 606811 or via sue.wiltshire@talk21.com with further news on all activities at the club to be found on www.sidmouthtennisclub.co.uk

There will be a Gala Evening at the club on Thursday, November 17. More details soon.
