Colyton Grammar School student, Elliot Moran produced a superb run to finish first in the Junior Boys category at the Devon Schools Cross Country Championships held at Stover, Newton Abbot, writes Zoe Kuyken.

Fourteen-year-old Elliot, wearing the number two on his shirt, finished first in a time of 13:21. he was five seconds ahead of second placed Miles Rees from Ilfracombe with Joel Kirby of Braunton thirds in 13:29.

Elliot now heads for the Schools South West Championships, being held in Chippenham, on February 7, where he will run as part of the Devon team.

The youngster said after his win: “I really wasn’t expecting to do so well! I’m really excited about now racing in the South West Championships where I’ll be trying hard to qualify to race for Devon at the National Championships.”

Those nationals are being run at Blackburn in Lancashire next month.
