MATT Cooke and Matt Hewer both hit centuries as Sidmouth totalled 309-6 against Wiltshire tourists Collingbourne on bank holiday Monday, writes John Goodwin.

The rain abated just in time for a 2.30pm start, allowing a 40-over game and Sidmouth set off at five an over through Hewer and Will Sobczak.

The departure of the latter in the seventh over brought Cooke to the crease and he announced his arrival with a boundary. It was not long before he was taking the aerial route over the rope and damaging the pavilion and a car parked on Fortfield Terrace.

He outpaced Hewer to 50 and included eight sixes in his century. When he was bowled for 116, the second wicket stand was worth 165. With Robbie Powell as partner, Hewer put on 53 for the third wicket until he was bowled for 106.Powell was set for a half century until a misunderstanding with Anthony Dibble saw him run out for 33.

After tea, Greg Chaplin took 3-14 in five overs, plucking the leg stump out of the ground twice and seeing a pad get in the way of a similar outcome.

Collingbourne compiled 57 in a third wicket stand ended by Declan Lines, who instigated a stutter in the visitors' progress as three wickets - two to Lines and one to Tim Philips - fell for eight runs.

John Goodwin floored a skier and Cooke put a low chance down, but two balls later he threw himself to his right to catch a full-blooded strike of a full toss one-handed. Brought on to turn his arm over, he promptly bowled two tail enders in four balls to wrap the Collingbourne reply up for 188 in the 39th .
