Terry House, captain of Ottery St. Mary Bowling Club, has had a very successful outdoor season in the Devon county competitions, writes Peter Bebb.
In the 2 Wood Singles semi, he lost to L Hawood of Shaldon but he reached the finals of the Bowls Devon Officers Singles Competition, beating D James of Bideford in the semi. In the hard fought final he was runner-up to J Kelly of Civil Service.
In other games, Ottery were successful in winning against Yate and District, a touring team from Bristol. The club won on six rinks and lost on one, the overall score 147-101: P Nicholls, J George, T Luff, Skip M Potter 18-15; M Griffin, D Garrod, J Candy, Skip M Smith 23-19; V Kille, D Rose, A Howells Skip T House 27-8; C Griffin, R Johnson, F Hunt, Skip N Lawrence 25-18; G Temple, M Shiel, P Richards, Skip W Taylor 20-16; D Luff, P Gray, D Nangle, Skip S Spencer 10-18; J Sarton, G Kille, D Dalton, Skip H Channon 24-7.
Against Axminster, Ottery won on all four rinks, 107-45: D Luff, P Bebb, T Luff, Skip G Temple 23-12; S Rowe, F Burgess, G Kille, Skip M Smith 21-11; D Manvill, J Bebb, A Howells, Skip T House 39-9; T Bushell, S Snelling, M Phillips, Skip D Dalton 24-13.
