Ottery St Mary 2nd XI batsman Anthony Dean scored a superb run-a-ball century, but it was ultimately in a losing cause as the Otters went down by a margin of 170 runs on their visit to Kentisbeare for a Tolchards Devon League E Division East game.

Batting first, the Kents had a father-and-son combination that opened their innings and the pair were involved in a double century stand!

Paul Tatterton scored a hard-hitting 151, this from just 106 deliveries during which time he slammed ten sixes and also rifled 16 fours – no fewer than 124 of his runs coming in boundaries!

His son, teenager Rory Tatterton, scored a run-a-ball 81 with 13 fours.

Josh Farley, a Devon County age group player, then scored a 35-ball 45 with seven boundaries before Martyn Howe (37no) and Scott Chappell (23no) added 58 for the unbroken seventh wicket as Kentisbeare closed on 412-6.

All the bowlers returned ‘meaty’ figures – a regular sufferance for bowlers at the small Kentisbeare ground!

It was fourth change Lawrence Walker who returned the best figures with his return being 3-78 from a full stint of nine overs and fifth change Jack Dallyn finished with 2-111 from his nine. There was also a run out with Ashok Prasad the Ottery fielder who made this possible.

The Ottery reply was underpinned by that magnificent Dean century. Indeed, the opener was the last man out, but not before he had scored 19 from 128 deliveries, hitting 24 fours. Such was the Dean dominance of the reply that the only other double-figure scores in a closing total of 242-8 were the 14 from number seven James Anderson and an unbeaten 11 from number nine bat Matt Jeacock.
