Dibble’s 100 not out

AN unbeaten century by Anthony Dibble propelled Sidmouth 3rd XI to a 79-run win over Alphington 2nd XI, writes John Goodwin.
The 16-year-old finished on 109 as his side piled up 226-1, Alistair Chilcott contributing 44 to an opening stand of 84 and Simon Sobczak 56 in an unbroken stand of 142.
He struck five fours and four sixes in his 126-ball stay and skipper Graham Munday felt confident enough to declare with two overs still to be bowled.
Alphington’s reply of 147 lasted 42 overs with only Munday of the nine bowlers used failing to secure a victim.
Isaac Thomas and Sobczak got two wickets with the others falling to Toby Seldon, Lee Clayden, George House, Chilcott, Tom Counsell and Ed Thomas.
While Sidmouth have cemented fourth spot in the 2nd XI B Division their chances of filling one of the promotion spots are slim because they have neither of the two leaders, Plymstock and Ipplepen, to play in their remaining four games.
Ipplepen, in second spot, are 21 points ahead and Plymstock a further six points away.
The best Sidmouth can realistically expect is third place, currently occupied by Brixham, who are three points ahead.
On Saturday they travel to Abbotskerswell.
