Hydon’s cricket run feast
PUBLISHED: 09:06 10 February 2012
CLYST Hydon made short work of Ottery St Mary, taking five overs to knock off the 63 runs required for victory, writes John Goodwin.
Ottery had only Alex Clements in any kind of batting form but he was one of three wickets for Paul Milner when he was one short of the 25 retirement score. Milner finished with 3-15 and then made 23 not out after Simon Holmes’s dismissal gave Ottery brief joy.
Ian Sutton retired on 25 to leave Milner and Graham Trude the job of completing a five-wicket win.
●Tipton fared little better against Clyst Hydon II, conceding 182 runs before being dismissed for 79.
Tucking into the run feast were Heffin Wood with 35 and Lewis Morgan, Mike Oberholster,Tim Piper and Will Greig all unbeaten with 53, 25, 27 and 29 respectively.
Adam Gibbins made 36 and Paul Williamson 20 in the Tipton reply.
●Kenny Clay anchored a Newton Poppleford ship that was in danger of listing until he made 45 not out and shared a profitable last wicket stand with George House to get the total to 114-4 against Newton St Cyres.
It proved 32 too many with Talha’s 32 preventing a rout.
●Clyst St George set Yarcombe & Stockland 132 to win, but they faltered early in the chase and it needed 21 from last man Dave Fuzzard to get the reply up to 85 before he became Chris Ferro’s second victim.
