Ottery St Mary Under-14s were too strong for hosts Bradninch in a Bradleys East Devon League game.
Dan Jeacock was the star of the show. The Otters opener struck seven 4s on his way to a quick-fire 40 at which point, under league rules, he was forced to retire.
Such was the Jeacock dominance that, when he returned to the pavilion the total was 66-3 and he had hit two-thirds of the runs! Henry Mutter, batting at number eight, was the other Otters batsman into double figures, hitting a four boundary 21 as Ottery closed on 119-8 in their 20 overs.
Matt Leaney, who plays football for West Hill Wasps, was the most successful home bowler with 3-15 whilst Will Birley’s 0-13 from four was the most economical of the home figures.
Luke Tierney struck with his very first delivery to begin the home demise. Only two Bradninch batsmen got into double figures as skipper Joe Henkus claimed 3-3 and there were two wickets for George Lloyd and one each for Tom Jeacock and jack Katene as the nine-man Mid Devon side were bowled out for 56 leaving Ottery 63-run winners.
In a well-spirited encounter Tom Gardner was a real sport fielding for the under manned home team and he claimed a catch to dismiss team mate Jack Katene. Young Gardner then held a catch off Katene’s bowling later in the game!
