Luke Bess hits unbeaten century as Sidmouth see off North Devon

Sidmouth saw off visiting North Devon – beating the Instow men by three wickets with four overs to spare in a game that saw another fine innings from a Bess – this time it was Luke Bess, who scored an unbeaten century to see the Fortfield men to victory.
Batting first, North Devon, who had Somerset player Jamie Overton in their ranks – he slammed four sixes and nine fours in a 57-ball of 80, but the other 10 batsmen could only muster 127 runs between them as they were bowled out for 207.
Matt Cooke took the Sidmouth bowling honours with a return of 4-31 and there were no fewer than four catches pouched by wicketkeeper Cameron Evans-Grainger.
The run chase was hit by the loss of three early wickets – Dec Lines (7), Josh Bess (4) and Matt Cooke (0) - reducing Sidmouth to 21-3, but Luke Bess and Liam Lewis got the innings back on track, adding 106 for the fourth wicket before Lewis was dismissed for 38.
Henry Gater chipped in with 25, but it was Bess and Evans-Grainger (2no) who were the unbeaten batsmen at the close with Bess having faced 127 balls, hitting 15 fours and one six, in his unbeaten 102.
