Sidmouth 2nds were indebted to a splendid tenth wicket partnership that ultimately led to them banking 17 points from yet another Francis Clark 2nd XI Premier Division triumph.

After being put in by visitors Plympton on a wicket that gave real assistance to the seam and wing deployed by the bowlers, wickets fell at regular intervals.

The only early partnership of any note was the 39 raised by Saj Patidar (13) and Robbie Powell (19), and, at 87-9 a miserable day for the Fortfield faithful was on the cards.

The last pair were bowler Chris Collings and skipper Charlie Dibble and the pair added a precious 56 runs for the final wicket, that of the captain for 15 with Collings unbeaten on 35.

A target of 144 was considerably short of what Sidmouth were capable of setting, but so much better than it might have been.

The reply saw a steady start to 35-1 with a leg before decision giving Fionn Wardrop the early success.

Skipper Dibble then threw the ball to his spinners and they delivered the goods, claiming three further wickets without a run being added to the total!

Dom Bess (2-25) and Charlie Miles (4-15 from nine overs) were instrumental in bowling Sidmouth to victory. A superb catch was held by wicket keeper Dan Powell who had another fine game behind the stumps.

When Dom Bess was replaced by Charlie Dibble the wickets continued to fall.

Nick Mansfield and Robbie Powell held smart catches and the final visiting wicket fell with the total on 99 when Saj Patidar, from square leg, threw down the stumps from 30 yards to finish the game in style.

On Saturday the table topping 2nd XI travel to bottom of the table North Devon II.
