The regular selection of antiques players were on display on a sunny day at Tipton which is probably why the game was sponsored by local collector David Jones.
Tipton were invited to bat first. Phil Tolley and Steve Walker took the score to 33 before Walker was bowled by Will Harrison who went on to claim 3-10 off eight tight overs. Phil Tolley eventually reached 50 before being caught off Hinch.
Apart from Dave Dawson with 16, Tolly’s partners did not reach double figures, but they took root long enough to support him and enable Tipton to reach 119. It should have been more, but Conway came on at the end taking the final four wickets for just seven runs.
After a splendid tea provided by Hazel Jones, Tipton opening the bowling with veteran David O’Higgins, who, in his first over enticed a top edge from Brooks who spiralled a catch to Phil Wright in the deep. He then bowled Whittington which was quickly followed by Thornton being bowled by Channon. Steady bowling by Channon, Wright and Dave Alford kept the Ottery batsmen pinned down and wickets falling regularly. Alford conceded just nine runs off his eight overs taking three wickets in the process
At 57-9 defeat for Ottery seemed assured, but a stubborn last wicket partnership between Richard Lock and Gitsham put on 22 runs in 10 overs before captain Adam Gibbins enticed Gitsham to clip the stumps with his bat.
Ottery were all out for 79 with only Conway and Lock reaching double figures with 21 each, leaving Tipton victors by 40 runs.
