Tipton St John were eight wicket winners after a close encounter with Stokeinteignhead.

Both sets of bowlers were the root cause of this being a tight game!

The visitors batted first and did not lose a wicket until the 21st over, but accurate Tipton bowling had restricted them to just 68 runs at that time.

David O’Higgins made the breakthrough though thanks to a juggled catch on the boundary by Alex Tubbs, Russell being the victim for 49. Young Jack Radford continued to impress claiming two wickets before the veteran ‘JR’ John Rodgers also picked up two wickets, in his case both coming in the same over.

David Birch was particularly miserly with his bowling conceding just 16 runs from the eight overs he sent down.

The other Tipton opening bowler, Tubbs, returned for a second spell and he claimed a brace of wickets to finish with 2-31.

Stokeinteignhead set a target of 152-7, and Tipton found it difficult to score against some good bowling.

However, that all changed when Alex Tubbs joined Phil Tolley and the pair quickened the rate. Eventually the unbeaten partnership was worth 110 with Tubbs making 41 and Tolley another splendid 83.

During the Tolley innings he eased his way past 1,000 runs for the season.
