SKILFUL Sidmouth RFC U15s showed their class, by bagging the Devon U15s rugby title.

By Chris ShawDevon RFC U15s tournament at CreditonSKILFUL Sidmouth showed their class, by bagging the Devon U15s rugby title by beating Teignmouth 49-19 in the final. With sunburn a real concern and the playing surface in perfect condition, the scene was set for an excellent tournament at Crediton Rugby Club. In the first match of the pool section Sidmouth played local rivals, and last year's winners, Exeter Saracens, winning 19-12. l Tiverton were their next opponents, Sidmouth winning 31-5. Receiving the kick, Sidmouth worked the ball to Paul Bright who ran in from halfway. Tiverton quickly replied. Ollie Cave scored from 20 metres and from that point Sidmouth dominated. The second half saw scores from Ollie Cave, Bright and Ashley Caldwell with a spectacular solo effort. l The last game of the pool was against Paignton and they did just enough to win 19-15 to top the list. This tuned out to be an even contest. Paignton scoring first, but Sergeant levelling the score at 5-5 with a long-distance solo effort. Powell grabbed his second of the day, sprinting along the touchline and round under the posts, and duplicated the feat a minute into the second half. Paignton hit back twice with well worked tries.l Sidmouth beat Devonport Services 33-22 in a cracking cup semi-final. Devonport Services stood between Sidmouth and the final, having racked up some impressive scores in their group and touchline wisdom was that Sidmouth would do well to stay in it. Services scored two early tries. Sidmouth harassed and tackled for their lives. Caldwell broke free to dive in under the posts, Services hit back with a try. Magnificent pressure saw Sergeant intercept for a score. Sidmouth found another gear and Caldwell bagged his third. Ollie Shaw tuned the ball over on the halfway line and sprinted under the posts. Sergeant bagged another. Services had the last to score but Sidmouth finished comfortable winners.l Sidmouth were just too skilful and fast for Teignmouth, winning 49-19.Within a minute Bright zipped in for a try, then Sergeant intercepted a pass and scored. Bright ran in under the posts, followed a minute later by another in the corner. Sidmouth were 26 points ahead before Teignmouth scored back. Bright grabbed his fourth with a great solo effort.Teignmouth scored first in the second half but Caldwell replied. Teignmouth got anther but the final move of the day saw Barney St Anton run the length of the pitch to score.
