The finals of the club internal competitions are to be held over the coming weekend with Sue Rogers meeting Nancy Temple in the Fermor Rose Bowl and Roger Hendy pitted against John Dixon in the Advanced Handicap competition.

Keith Thorley's opponent in the Devonia Cup will be David Laidler, who beat Anne Reece by the narrowest of margins at the semi-final stage. Margaret Piper also had a close win against Graham Harford and will meet Roger Hendy in the Belmont Cup.

In the new Golf Croquet Singles competition, Robert Hammond will play Graeme Pryor.

The Humphrey Hicks semi-final and final stages are played as the best of three games and, in the semi-final between Cliff Jones and Richard Wood, we saw an impressive performance by Cliff who rattled off a couple of +24 games, including a triple peel - not a common sight at Sidmouth! Cliff will play either Robert Hammond or Tony Dustan-Smith in the final.

l Last week, a team of eight Sidmouth players set out for their traditional end-of-season friendly match against Budleigh. This is always an enjoyable event and, as usual, Sidmouth were warmly welcomed by their hosts on what turned out to be a brilliantly sunny day.

At lunchtime the scores were level after eight closely-contested games, but in the afternoon, Budleigh edged ahead to win by 9-7. Nevertheless, a good day out topped by an excellent tea!
