Sidmouth's top golfer Damion Gee continues to accumulate honours as his amateur career goes from strength to strength. Earlier this month Damion became Devon Amateur Champion 2008 at Royal North Devon Golf Club, regaining the title he had won in 2006. Interestingly the quarter-finals had featured Damion and Neil Holland in a match between Sidmouth's best county level golfers and, in a close game, Damion progressed to the semi-finals after a 3 and 2 victory. A 2 and 1 win over James Dimond (East Devon) saw him face Saunton's Jon White in the final, and a tough match was inevitable with the assumption that his opponent could possibly benefit from familiarity with his neighbouring course. In the event Damion was in control for most of the round and was one up going down the 18th, although Jon won the hole to take the match into sudden death. It took another four hard-fought holes for Damion to settle the issue in his favour, and he now goes on to represent Devon in the English Golf Union County Champions Tournament at Woodhall Spa on September 20. This was a great win for not only Sidmouth's premier player but a fine ambassador for the club.
