VETERAN Richard Seldon or, as he is more affectionately known, Dickie has retired from football. He began his football at Sidbury in the early 1980s where, with another unique band of youngsters, he saw unrivalled success. He captained the team at the tender age of 18, and even had the unusual distinction of playing with club chairman Mike Wood and resident referee Keith White. Dickie went on to win consecutive titles at the Intermediate one stage of the League then Senior 4, 3 and 2. He left shortly after that for Sidmouth Town where he played in the Premier division for several seasons before returning to Sidbury for the 2005/06 campaign. In that season, at the age of 38, he captained the side again to runners up and promotion to Senior 3. After that he achieved another goal by gaining promotion to Senior 2. He assisted current manager Mel Coombs in helping the club back to Senior One, and this season he decided to play again for the reserves. After a lot of thought he has decided to call it a day. He has won the Seaton Challenge Trophy, the Morrison Bell and the Grandisson Cup but probably the most amazing achievement is the record of winning the President's Cup 14 times out of 14 playing for both Sidbury and Sidmouth - a record that may never be broken!
