The annual indoor presentation evening at Sidmouth Bowls Club was, once again, a great success with delightful catering from Saul Vicary, Tony Anthony on the bar and a great evening organised by the indoor committee, with Captain Phil Meadows at the helm.
There was terrific news for the Ladies InterClub team in their third round tie, played at Bitton against Unity Park, Plymouth. Both of our rinks won handsomely, with an enormous score of Sidmouth 55 Unity Park 24.
They now proceed to the quarter finals, against United Services, Barnstaple, to be played at Culm Vale on July 28. The players are Karen Hollingdale, Anita Mason, Sue Turner and skip Jane Painter, plus Jean Brimson, Mary Turner, Brenda Somerfield and skip Jill Bishop.
In the semi-final of the Men’s Devon County Foxlands Trophy against Honiton, the home rink of Allan Davis, John Chew, Brian Smith and skip Ken Wheeler went into the 21st and final end just one shot down. In a very exciting finish, Sidmouth scored two, thus winning by one shot.
The away rink of John Richards, Roger Stewart, John Mason and skip Mike Borst were all level on the 20th end but sadly lost a few on the final end.
One of our Ladies County triples teams has had a couple of good results and reached section 3 A final. Their last game resulted in the opposition conceding after 15 ends as the score was 25 - 9 in Sidmouth’s favour. Carol Timms, Brenda Somerfield, who is substitute for Chrissie Leedham, and skip Sue Turner met Honiton in the final but went down 10 – 14.
The Over 60's A team did very well against Budleigh Salterton, mainly due to one rink having a stomping good win. They were Paul Irvine, John Mason and skip Mike Borst, 33 -12. This gave them an overall win of nine shots.
Finally, an away friendly match at Phear Park (Exmouth). A good game was had by all with Phear Park winning by just 3 shots overall. 66 - 69. Our top rink was Chris Ward, Janice Quinn and skip David Bates 17 - 14.
