The South East Two in-house derby between the Sidmouth and Ottery Hockey Club (SOHC) men's third and fourth teams ended in a 4-2 win for the third team.
The fourth team had the better of the early exchanges, but the third team scored first with a goal from Tom Jeacock.
It was soon 2-0 with Greg Seward tucking away a short corner.
That was still the score at half-time, but whatever was said to the third team during the break by captain Dan Weedon clearly got home, for his team were quickly into their stride in the second half.
A slick passing move ended with a polished finish from Woody Thorp to reduce the arrears and parity was restored when Elliott Bowyer showed calmness with a good finish.
The third team dug deep and did eventually restore their lead and indeed, went on to score fourth goal, with their two first-half scorers netting their second-half goals.
So match honours to the third team meaning the game had ‘gone to form’.
However, the fourth team showed enough spirit to suggest that their current run of nine games without a win will soon come to an end.
As things stand, with nine games played by each team in South East Two table, the two Ottery teams occupy the bottom two berths.
Tomorrow (Saturday) the fourth team travel to fourth bottom Chard B, while the third team have home advantage for their meeting with Bridgwater C, who sit seventh in the table, four places and six points better off than them.
