None of the 22 ladies who set out on Wednesday for the County Prize competition managed to complete their round without a soaking, some even managed a double drenching, writes Liz Chance.
Needless to say, when all the players had returned to the clubhouse, the sun came out. Past captain Paddy Hutchings, a much valued member of the ladies’ section for many years, celebrated her 80th birthday and, to mark the occasion, provided and presented three beautiful paperweights to the winners.
Marie Timms came first with Yvonne Anning just pipping lady captain Anne Blackler to second place after countback. Following the presentation, members, along with many past members who were invited to share Paddy’s festivities, enjoyed a birthday tea with scrumptious cup cakes baked by Ann Willoughby…..all the wet weather forgotten!
