A goal from Karren Dutton saw Sidmouth and Ottery (SOHC) ladies senior team to a victory against hosts ECVH in a match that saw two of the visiting side pick up injuries.
SOHC travelled with a strong team that included Nicky Bishop and Sara Roberts, both making welcome returns to action.
The team made a bright start and a series of excellent driving runs from Phoebe Roberts and Maisie Pritchard pushed the home side back to their D.
The ECVH goalkeeper proved to be in good form and, on numerous occasions, made saves to deny, in particular, the lively SOHC front pairing of Katie Jackson and Sam Parkyn.
Late in the first half the pressure eventually told and Dutton got on the end of another free-flowing move to send SOHC into the interval with a 1-0 lead.
After the break the home side came out strongly and, with all guns blazing, forced a number of short corners.
There was some terrific defensive play from Ellie Marrok and Lucy Covell, both despatching good clean ball from the defensive D.
Sixteen-year-old Emily Ackland was also impressive and a number of her slick 16-yard hit outs broke through the oppositions press.
After losing goal scorer Dutton to a hand injury and Sara Roberts to a clash of heads, SOHC were forced to defend deeply. The home side built pressure, but were kept at arms length by a combination of splendid defending and some outstanding saves by goalkeeper Hayley Delasalle.
When the ball was cleared there was plenty of industry from the midfield trio of Frankie Elliot, Katie Dean and Nicky Bishop and it was certainly not all one-way traffic in the second half with SOHC looking slick and confident on the break.
The Player of the Match award Chick, was shared by Nicky Bishop and Ellie Marok.
