TEENAGER George Biggs raised the individual score bar to 80 in the East Devon Indoor Cricket League and almost took Ottery St Mary to victory over Sidmouth.

Ottery were facing a respectable 143 from Sidmouth, centred on an unbeaten 59 from Anthony Griffiths and 33 from Fionn Wardrop.

Biggs, who had already distinguished himself with a reaction catch to give Andrew Tubbs one of his three wickets, lost opening partner Barry Flicker run out without facing a ball and two other team-mates without scoring. But, in Duncan Bradshaw-Smith he found a reliable partner.

They pushed the score along from 71-4 after seven overs to 121 without further loss after 11. That meant 23 were needed off the final over sent down by Miles Dalton.

Biggs hit two sixes, but the 21 taken saw Ottery two short of what would have been a famous victory. Bradshaw-Smith finished 25 not out.

After Biggs had hit the best individual score of the competition, reigning champions Clyst Hydon struck the highest team total with 190 against Honiton.

Ian Sutton was 61 not out and retirement 25s were made by Simon Holmes, Graham Trude and Clint Holmes.

The reply of 77 meant Clyst registered a 113-run winning margin

After dismissing Newton St Cyres for 75, as four batsmen were run out, Exmouth had little difficulty in completing a three-wicket victory.

James Tapper finished things off with a six in the 11th over to move to 13 not out and George Greenaway made 24.

Yarcombe & Stockland were quicker knocking off the 82 needed to beat Newton Poppleford.

It should have been more after Newton Poppleford openers J Stott and A Cardwell both reached the retirement score of 25.

Ben Fuzzard and James Mitcham did similarly for Yarcombe, but in quicker time, and their side completed a five-wicket win in eight overs.
