Sidmouth Rugby Club is celebrating a fantastic achievement for one of their own, as U18 player Ellie Wood has been named ‘Most Improved Player’ in the Exeter College Rugby Academy awards.

Ellie has been part of the Sidmouth system for over eight years and a top player in the development of female rugby at the Blackmore. She has also represented Devon rugby, Exeter College Academy, Exeter Chiefs Academy and has been selected to attend the 2022/23 U18 England camp in the summer.

In presenting the award to Ellie, Exeter College Women’s Rugby said: “The award could have gone to any number of players. The growth of some of the girls this year has been brilliant. The game understanding, technical and tactical skills and impact on the game of many players has been incredible.

“However, this player has really stepped up and is a physical specimen on the pitch. Her hard work has earned her a shirt in this year’s South of England TDG squad.”

Congratulations Ellie.

As well as success on the pitch, Sidmouth RFC are also getting ready for new season behind the scenes and opportunities have arisen for bar staff to join the team at Blackmore.

Applicants must be over the age of 18, flexible and reliable, able to work weekends and out of season work is available. Contact barandbookings@sidmouthrfc.co.uk for more information.

It could well be that some new faces will be serving for the Sidmouth RFC Quiz Night on Friday, July 15, which is being staged to help raise funds for new floodlights at the Sidford pitches.

The club is welcoming donations for raffle prizes and items can be dropped into the clubhouse. Contact the club first to make sure someone is around to collect and book your team for an evening of quizzical fun, contact barandbookings@sidmouthrfc.co.uk

A final word of thanks and congratulations to the members of Sidmouth RFC who took part in the recent Race for Life event in aid of cancer research. An incredible £85,000 was raised for a cause that has touched all our lives.
