Sidmouth and Seaton head tennis coach, Ben Elliott won the Devon Coach of the Year award for 2012 at the Devon LTA Awards night, writes Lesley Cranston.

This is a terrific achievement so early in Ben’s career. He only took up tennis at the age of 14 but his talent was clearly evident as he was selected to join the South West Tennis Academy from where he went on to complete his degree in Sports Development and Coaching.

He achieved his LTA Coaching Qualification (Level 3) in November 2011 whilst coaching at Seaton and Exmouth and, in September, he took up the post of head coach at both Sidmouth and Seaton clubs.

This award is just recognition of how much Elliott has achieved in such a short space of time.

Emma Hurst, from Seaton, a pupil of Colyton Grammar School, won the Devon Tennis Player of the Year award for her achievements competing regionally and nationally during 2012 and for her efforts in contributing to the success of tennis in Devon.
