End-to-end goal fest

PUBLISHED: 16:04 09 March 2012

Sidmouth HC Ladies’ 1st 6 – Exe 7

Despite playing this rearranged fixture midweek under floodlights at Ottery, no sooner had the whistle gone, than Sidmouth put their first goal on the score sheet through ace striker Taryn Beauthin, writes Vicki Russell.

Jodie Parsons added to the tally with a lifted shot into the top corner. A confident Sidmouth team went on to play some of their best hockey this season in an end-to-end thriller.

Exe are a quality side, chasing promotion, and so can never be written off. It was nip and tuck throughout but Sidmouth thought they had done enough when they got to 6-5 ahead in the final quarter.

Exe levelled and went ahead and Sidmouth ran out of time to reply again. Goals were scored by Lea Pidgeon, Chrissie Mitchell, Vicki Russell and Beuthin.

A hugely disappointed Sidmouth team left the pitch with no points, despite playing the game of the season – a 13 goal bonanza! Coach McVey was hugely proud of the team's overall performance.
