It is time to dust off the binoculars, don the warm clothes, pack a picnic and head to Bishop’s Court near Fluxton, Ottery St Mary, for the East Devon Hunt point to point races on Saturday.

A great entry has been received for the card which kicks off at 11.30am with the hunt race.

Sue Trump’s Tamatown, trained at Payhembury by Leslie Jefford, is the one to beat but faces competition from Rocklyn (owned and ridden by Sarah Pidsley), Regal Rumpus (owned by Anne Carter), Not A Doctor (Robin Pike and N Pike) and Crackon Pop (Michael Sweetland).

Charlie Rush’s Indiana Bay, trained near Bude by Jill Dennis, will be looking to defend his unbeaten record in point-to-points in the Mixed Open, having won the Intermediate at Buckfastleigh in fine style two weeks ago. He could be challenged by older rivals such as prolific winner Come What Augustus, who has won 15 point-to-points from the in-form Kayley Jones yard, and the Emma Oliver-trained Double Bank who recently scored a comfortable win at Buckfastleigh.

Exeter racecourse sponsor the intermediate. Entries include the Clare Hitch-trained Batu Ferringhi, who stormed home to win a restricted by 15 lengths at Milbourne St Andrew, and the Richard Barber-trained Belsinni Ron, who should not be left out of the equation having taken the restricted at Larkhill for champion jockey Will Biddick. Barber’s Barneys Mate could also take the novice riders’ race. Barney’s Mate, will be looking for a hat-trick this season having scored at Barbury and Milborne St Andrew for jockey Martin McIntyre.

Nycteos is a former grade two winner under rules and took the novice riders race at Chipley for Susannah Andrews.

Ladfromhighworth could take the restricted for trainer Camilla Scott having justified joint favoritism at Buckfastleigh following hunter chase winner Robin Will in by four lengths and looks sure to win soon.

The final race on the card is the open maiden for eight year olds and over which has attracted 25 entries .

The Brightwell open maiden for four to seven year olds has attracted 31 entries and may well be divided. One to note is the Sarah Gordon-trained Canada Combe who was denied a win by a short head in a maiden at Chipley Park, a race which was won by George Reid. Also entered is Moscow Blaze who ran a good race when sent off joint favorite at Cottenham and finished third behind Driftwood Pride and Milly Malone.

Entrance is £20 per car load or £10 car and driver. There are on-course bar, bookies and hot refreshments available. The postcode is EX11 1RJ.
