A STORMING second-half comeback, including two tries by first-team debutant Sam Plummer, saw Exmouth beat Camborne 30-24 away and keep up their drive towards the top of the Tribute Rugby South West Premier Division.

It was a memorable recovery in Cornwall, for the Cockles trailed 6-24 at half-time.

But they turned the game around after the interval with tries by Matty Ryan, Plummer two off the bench and George Meadows, who kicked ten points.

Meadows also hit the posts twice.

After the eighth round of matches Exmouth (31pts) stay third behind unbeaten pair Exeter University (40) and Weston Hornets (36), and ahead of a home game against lowly Drybrook from Gloucestershire this Saturday.

The big game on the horizon is the visit of Exeter Uni to the Imperial Recreation Ground on November 20.

Sidmouth did not have a game in South West One, but they resume against Bristol side Thornbury at Blackmore this weekend.

There was a big crowd at Raleigh Park for the Withycombe-v-Topsham derby in Cornwall/Devon Division, and it went the way of the form book. The visitors and new leaders won 24-0.

It was the improved Withies' first home defeat of the season, and it was Topsham's disciplined defence - they led 12-0 at half-time - which was the key.

Topsham withstood plenty of home possession and pressure, and had the quality to score four tries through Henry Batty (2), Luke Edwardson and Alex Taylor with James Mattin kicking two conversions.

With previous leaders Pirates Amateurs slipping to a surprise 12-38 defeat at Cullompton, Topsham (34pts) now top the table from Bude (32) and Pirates (30).

Topsham face fourth-placed Torquay Athletic at home next.

This Saturday's fixtures: SW Premier - Exmouth v Drybrook, SW One - Sidmouth v Thornbury, Cornwall/Devon - Topsham v Torquay Athletic, Newquay Hornets v Withycombe.
